Location
Brisbane, Queensland
Completion date
2009
Positioned on the banks of the Brisbane River, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre has an enviable reputation as one of Australia's best entertainment facilities. After 24 years of successful operation, the Lyric Theatre and Concert Hall underwent a $34.7 million refurbishment project and re-opened in 2009 with significantly improved universal access, acoustics and technical operations.
Our Role
As Theatre Consultants to the refurbishment project, we worked closely with Cox Rayner Architects and Planners to improve universal access for patrons and staff throughout the facility, resulting in significant improvements to universal access and operations to front of house areas, foyer facilities such as box office, cloakroom, as well as food and drink outlets.
Both auditoriums underwent a complete redesign of seating configuration resulting in increased capacity, more wheelchair positions and new audience seating throughout.
A Few Features
Upgrades to the 2,000 seat horseshoe-style Lyric Theatre included new carpeted flooring, a new stage deck, and considerable improvements to theatrical lighting and fly
tower rigging systems.
The redesign of the 1,600 seat Concert Hall included a timber floor, a new stage, upgrades to the lighting infrastructure and the installation of high-powered LED light fittings to highlight the hall's interior architecture by washing the walls, roof and 6,500-pipe Klais Grand Organ in saturated colour.
