Marshall Day Acoustics has played a significant role in the $45 million Galleries of Remembrance project at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne, Australia. The project, designed by ARM Architecture, includes the redevelopment of the Shrine's undercroft space and construction of a southern extension beneath the mounds. This space is a mirror image of the Visitor Centre redevelopment, which was completed in 2003.
One of the highlights of the development is the display of a lifeboat used during the Gallipoli landing from the troop and hospital ship SS Devanha, on loan from the Australian War Memorial.
Our Brief
The development includes facilities for exhibitions, community research, and the delivery of school and community education programs. We provided design advice for the 5.1 professional surround system, foyer and courtyard sound reinforcement system.
Marshall Day Acoustics also provided design input into all acoustic aspects of the project, including the acoustic design of the theatrette and building services noise control.
Awards
The Shrine of Remembrance won numerous awards and commendations, including the prestigious Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture from the Australian Institute of Architects and the Victorian Architecture Medal at the 2015 Victorian Architecture Awards.
