2015

Melbourne Park is the home of the Australian Tennis Open.

This project involved the upgrade and expansion of Margaret Court Arena to a seat capacity of 7,500.  It has transformed the arena into a state-of-the-art multi-purpose indoor venue with a fully retractable roof.

As well as becoming Melbourne Park's third tennis venue, the venue will also play host to basketball, netball and music concerts all year round.

Our Brief

We developed the design for the arena's new in-house sound system to be used for PA announcements and music reproduction, as well as having the capability to integrate with touring PA systems to provide additional coverage for concerts. The sound system is also a combined PA/EWIS system, utilising end-of-line monitoring linked to the BMS system.

The Marshall Day Acoustics team also designed the room acoustics of the arena, concourse and back-of-house areas, sound insulation of the arena for music concerts, and the building services noise and vibration control.

Awards

The project won an award, in the Public Architecture - Alterations and Additions Category, at the 2015 Victorian Architecture Awards, and a commendation for Public Architecture at the 2015 National Architecture Awards
